Types of Mold › Cladosporium
Cladosporium is an extremely common olive-green to brown mold, notable for growing in both warm and cool conditions — which is why it turns up in so many parts of a home year-round.
Look for it on fabrics, carpets, upholstery, and around windows and damp surfaces, as well as in bathrooms and basements. Its tolerance for cooler temperatures lets it grow in spots other molds won't.
It can cause allergic and respiratory symptoms, especially for those with asthma or allergies. Like other indoor molds, the right response is removal plus moisture control rather than disturbing the growth.
Standard remediation applies: contain, HEPA-filter, remove or clean affected materials, and address the dampness feeding it — often condensation around windows or humidity in basements. Our Richmond climate guide explains why that humidity is so persistent locally.
